From prep to cooking to garnish, there are so many tips and tricks that should make your everyday life in the kitchen more rewarding and enjoyable. Just for starters, lets go over the proper way to use a chefs knife. First off the blade is curved for a reason, you should never take the point of the knife off the cutting surface, only raise the back of the knife. The knife is stationary and you have less chance of losing a finger if the blade stays in one spot. With a little practice you could chop an onion in less than a minute.

Learning a little bit of science could save you time as well. Salt waters boiling point is less that normal water so if you throw some salt in your water as you put it on to boil, it should start boiling faster than normal water. An onions gas it produces when cut reacts with the water in your eye lids and creates sulfuric acid, and you produce tears to wash out your eyes. So if you cut the onion while its wet you probably wont cry as much.
