From prep to cooking to garnish, there are so many tips and tricks that should make your everyday life in the kitchen more rewarding and enjoyable. From using a knife properly to throwing salt in water to make it boil faster, the time that can saved would not only make your experience more enjoyable, it would give you extra time to ad that extra flair in you dishes.


Just for starters, lets go over the proper way to use a chefs knife. First off the blade is curved for a reason, you should never take the point of the knife off the cutting surface, only raise the back of the knife. The knife is stationary and you have less chance of losing a finger if the blade stays in one spot. With a little practice you could chop an onion in less than a minute.


Just little things that you would never think twice about could save you a lot of time and effort. Try this, next time you are in a kitchen cooking, from the start to the finish, pay close attention to every little thing you do. After the meal is complete think of a few things that you could have done different, I’m sure that with a little advice you could have save at least ten minutes.


Learning a little bit of science could save you time as well. Salt waters boiling point is less that normal water so if you throw some salt in your water as you put it on to boil, it should start boiling faster than normal water. An onions gas it produces when cut reacts with the water in your eye lids and creates sulfuric acid, and you produce tears to wash out your eyes. So if you cut the onion while its wet you probably wont cry as much.
