Portable Induction Cooktops

Portable Induction Cooktops are a smaller version of the larger induction ranges found in many kitchens and home. Small, compact, light and versatile, the portable appliances can meet many of the challenges that portable gas and electric single hobs cannot meat.

Induction cooking brings many advantages. It is fast, safe, cost-effective, efficient, cool to the touch, has no flame, is very heat responsive easily controlled.

Portable induction cooktops are now being used in many different cooking scenarios. Because induction cooking does not use radiant heat to cook, there is very little wasted energy transferring into the air around the hob. This more efficient form of cooking means that the air in the kitchen will not heat up. This is particularly useful if you are cooking in small confined spaces. Not only does this mean there is no need for loud and costly heat extraction units but the cooking experience is a much more pleasant one. This advantage comes to the fore in small apartment or in basement kitchens where ventilation may be limited.

The lack of flame is also a great advantage especially if you want to cook in a confined space where it may be deemed dangerous. For example many RV, trailer and boats use this flameless technology to great affect. Not only is it flameless but the chance of paper or other material catching fire from the hob is non-existent.

Portable induction hobs also provide you with an enormous range of cooking options. As the heat is fast and responsive, grilling, stir-fry, deep-frying, pressure cooking, slow cooking and even wok-cooking are all available options.

If you do decide to cook with a portable induction cooktop remember to use induction ready cookware. Induction cooking is reliant on electromagnetism. This therefore requires that cookware has some ferromagnetic (iron) properties within the pot base.

Induction cookware should therefore contain enamel cast iron, pure cast iron or stainless steel. Cooking vessels that are based upon aluminium, copper, glass pyrex will not work. If you are ever unsure if a cooking vessel will work with an induction hob use a magnet to test the base of the pan. A lot of new induction ready cookware will also now display an Induction Ready logo.

If you are looking to buy a portable induction hob look out for features such as the size of the hob, timer functions, child safe locks, overheat sensors, power sensitivity controls and pre-programmable heat settings.
